An American-English adaptation of Critique de la mode. It asks why intact clothes become socially old before they wear out, develops symbolic obsolescence as the link between changing meanings and material replacement, and follows fashion through identity, status, advertising, supply chains, fast fashion, waste, repair, resale, recycling, and policy while preserving fashion’s creative and playful dimensions.
